In October
of 2003, one of my brothers passed away unexpectedly. Then March, my
Mother was called to her heavenly home. My Father after having been
married to her for 65 and 1/2 years, was so devastated he lived only 15
days without the love of his life. He went to join her on the 17th of
March. They had spent their whole life together side by side. Wherever
they were they were next to each other. Three years earlier my Mother
had colon cancer surgery. She was very, very ill and we did not expect
her to live through the surgery. But she came through it like a
trooper!! We all took flowers to our precious Mother, but my baby
sister, Patti, took her a plant. It was a miniature rose bush. There
were two bushes in the same pot. A white one and a peach one. After the
blooms died Mother said, “Patti take this home and care for it. I don’t
want it to die.” And Patti did just that. Carefully watering, feeding
and nurturing the plant. But to no avail. It never bloomed again. Three
days after our Mother died Patti was watering the plant and talking to
Mother. She said, “Mother I need to know that you are okay. If you are,
put a bud on this bush!” Two weeks later there was a bud on the once
barren bush. Within a few days my father died. My granddaughter Alexis
said, “Nana! Tell Grandma to put a bud on the bush for Grandpa if he is
okay!” Two weeks after that there was a bud on the other bush. Then
another bud appeared which we figured Mother was telling us our brother
was with them. After that five more buds appeared. Making a total of
eight, the number of people in our family.
